About ProApis project
ProApis project is funded by Irish Research Council
ProApis is a project with a biotechnological approach in search of viable solutions to mitigate the negative impact of pesticides on the health of bees, significantly contributing to improve their survival. This will be achieved by isolating and characterizing native probiotics from the intestine of larvae and bees Apis mellifera exposed to sub-lethal doses of pesticides under in vitro conditions with the ability to degrade these toxic compounds. This strategy will strengthen the bees' tolerance to pesticides and increase their survival.
ProApis is an unprecedented innovative project with a high environmental impact that will help mitigate the loss of pollinators and achieve 15 of the 17 sustainable development goals proposed by the UN. This project will take place at the Irish Agriculture and Food Development Authority (Teagasc). The results generated will be of interest to scientific communities, beekeepers and society in general.
